10mm...a 9mm can work with flat nose hard cast 147gr +P+ 16 to 19 rds would work also. I personally prefer a 45 Super 255 Hardcast going 1175fps @685 fpe. 13 rds out of an HKUSP45.

My 17 hmr has honestly impressed me, hit a crow at 182 yards and blew it's back out.. at that range the little .17 gr v max was probably only doing 1350fps but had the energy to still expand and do damage. I'd call the 17hmr a 150 yard gun.

I own two, no ARs both are Remington bolt guns. 700 Tactical 22" (a matte blue version of the VSSF) and 700 Police 26". The 700 Tactical with Speer 90 TNTs at close to 3000 fps does the job on coyotes and absolutely explodes marmots. I challenge hunters who turn up their noses to the 6.8 SPC to compare it to the tried and true 250 Savage, basically identical ballistically. Waiting to try the 85 grain Barnes X on an Antelope. Would like to build a 15" XP100 in 6.8.

You never seem to hear the discussion which is probably the most useful and important. The talk about what real world results the average guy can expect with an average rifle shooting commonly available off the shelf ammo. The average Joe with a 22" Ruger American who buys a box of Remington Core-Lokt isn't going to see the claimed 2,700fps, nor the impressive BC some 6.5 bullets have, nor the sub MOA groups some 6.5s loads/rifles can print. In general, the .308 will serve the average hunter better. Without handloading and a custom 26" bull barrel the long range precision shooter will be left disappointed with the 6.5.

7mm PRC has brought the 7mm back from obscurity and is immensely popular. I believe this only makes the other 7mm cartridges more popular especially with the publicity from comparison videos and availability of 7mm reloading components.

Love my Tikkas, I had 4 at one stage and still have 3, had a 223, 2x 308 and a wildcat 375/300 win mag. Have put thousands of rounds through the 308s and the only thing that I have ever had go wrong was a sheard bolt stop, when working the bolt hard through 10shot mags at mobs of animals when culling pest species. Even the factory aluminium scope rings that people will tell you to throw away have never given any trouble on my 308s, I do run steel rings on the 375 though.

6.5 is a cute target round. Not the best hunting round. Not the best for sniping. 308 is tried and true. 7mm mag, 300win and the PRCs far outshine the 6.5 in every way other than recoil. 6.5 is just cute lol

44 mag and 500 is a better bear stopper. Only problem is most people can't shoot them accurately or put rounds quickly on target. 10 mill outshines in that area. Plus your talking about 15 rounds on tap to use in high stress situations!

There are two things not mentioned. When using the accutrigger with gloves, a pull to one side of the trigger causes the trigger to malfunction. I would rather have one without the blade for hunting or sniper type shooting. The other one is a flat vs round, vs diagonal receivers. In my opinion, the flat one wouldn't torque as bad as a round one.

Actually built a 13.5” ar-10 in 308 for this very reason. As a SHTF rifle. Always ammo available Can do up close Can still effectively take a 300yrd shot and drop just about anything living. In SHTF over 300yrds wouldn’t really be a shot to take anyways. Throw in the advances in NV/ thermal scopes and your set. Day/night; close up or “longer” range. All the above with wayyy more knockdown power than a 5.56 could ever get! Nowwwww to just get someone to do a bullpup setup for the AR-10! Lol AR platform for the reliability and large numbers out there for ever needing to find new parts in SHTF scenario.
